在传统教学中，报告是很多英语教师都使用的一种教学方式，在实践中，我发现这个形式不错，但每天学生的参与面太小，一人报告，其他人只是在听，并没有达到充分调动学生各种感官的目的。因此我将我们班的英语报告形式进行了调整，最出的形式为每天由一人进行主讲，时间在三分钟之内，然后是同学们针对报告内容的深层次提问，报告人要一一解答，总时间10分钟左右。这一调整立场引起了同学门的共鸣，报告人积极准备同学们可能会问到的问题，甚至有同学在报告的时载歌载舞，班级里乐声悠扬，洋溢着和谐的气氛。而提问题的同学更是此起彼伏，最初有的同学几次举手都的不到机会，不知从何时起同学们举手提问变成了直接站起来提问提，既节约了时间又调动了全体同学的参与热情。这个教学环节里，同学们的报告内容包罗象，从天文地理，经济文化，伦理道德，环境保护到小区建设，使同学们接受了大量的知识信息，既发挥了英语语言功能，达到了说的目的，又发挥学科的德育功能，同学们在这个教学环境里自然而然地受到了爱国注意、集体主义及人生观、世界观的教育，同时也培养了良好的心理素质。
为了保持课前报告的生命力，让同学们常说常新，对开口讲英语始终保持浓厚兴趣，我们师生经过研究决定定期改变报告形式，一学期为一个周期。第二个学期调整为无准备的抽签式即兴演讲，每周由课代表向全班征求演讲话题，从中挑出同学们普遍感兴趣的六个题目后交到我这里以供每节课前做报告的同学抽签使用,全班同学在报告人结束以后可以针对这的话题和演讲人的演讲发表看法或提出问题，台上台下经常展开辩论，同学们据理力争，作为教师，我几乎每节课都会情不自禁地融入到其中，和同学们一起发表观点。这种调整对同学们的英语表达能力有了更高的要求，但丝毫没有减弱大家展示自己英语表达能力的信心，因为在这里没有老师的权威性定论，没有因为几个词语或语法上的错误而受到责备，没有空洞的说教，课堂上充满师生和谐的情感沟通和热情的交流。
第三个学期开学后，我要求作报告的同学结合每周各单元的课堂教学，充分挖掘教材，在报告内容中体现出来。同学们积极准备资料，为每一个单元的教学内容作了大量补充，这种调整既加深了同学们对教学内容的理解，又辅助了教师的课堂教学，改变了传统教学中忽视英语课文内容只注重个别语言点的教学思路。

教育部《英语专业教学大纲》（以下简称《大纲》）在英语专业课程描述中提到：基础英语（综合英语），是一门综合英语技能课，其主要目的在于培养和提高学生听、说、读、写、译综合运用英语的能力……《大纲》对英语专业三年级学生的英语口语达标要求为：能比较系统、深入、连贯地表达自己的思想，发表自己的见解。《大纲》要求教师鼓励学生积极参与课堂的各种语言交际活动以获得基本的交际技能，达到所规定的听、说、读、写、译等技能的等级要求［1］。在各项技能中，听、读为输入，说、写、译为输出。值日报告虽然是课前几分钟的“说”的输出的讲演，但学生在准备过程中由于要查找和帅选相关资料，接触并阅读到了大量的语料，同时进行了读、写、说等各种技能训练的转换。这种通过反复地加工语言并进行说的输出，实现可理解性输出，提高语言运用的能力，达到了知识内化的目的［2］。听、说、读、写有两性，即语言技能（language/linguist verbal/skill）和教学方法/技巧、手段，作为技能的听、说、读、写是互补的，作为教学技巧的四者也是互补的［3］。因此，值日报告这项课前“热身”的活动，既是学生语言技能的训练，又是教师语言教学的方法、技巧、手段，在综合英语课堂的运用尤为必要。
（二）学生心智发展所需
由于学生在中学阶段要应对中、高考，课堂时间几乎都是在进行题海练习，课堂教学活动比较单调，学生不大有机会进行专门的听、说、读、写、译的练习，特别是说的练习。而在大学，英语专业课堂教学活动几乎都围绕听、说、读、写、译技能训练展开，低年级的综合英语课堂更离不开“说”的活动。据已有调查，“说”是听、说、读、写、译中最能诱发焦虑的要素，最容易使学生产生惧怕和紧张的情绪［4］。但是学生需要在学校的学习中逐渐学会与人交流，表达自己的思想，拓展自己对问题深层次的思考并善于表达自己的观点，也是为将来更好地工作、生活、学习奠定基础。确实，几分钟的台前值日报告虽然时间很短，但要在老师和同学的几十双眼睛的注视下说英语对每一个学生，特别是新生来说都是一个极大的挑战。综合英语课程贯穿学生所有学期的学习，连续五个学期的课堂值日报告无疑为学生逐渐克服心理焦虑障碍，锻炼心理素质，增强自信心，激发展现自我欲望提供了锻炼的平台。同时，值日报告的准备过程也能增强学生查阅资料、筛选有效信息、总结归纳要点、同伴分工合作、小组沟通交流和协作的能力。值日报告的准备过程中的重复操练，促进了学生语言技能的掌握，也是符合语言学习的规律的。正如行为主义心理学认为，刺激对语言习惯养成的重要作用，重复和操练是习得语言的必由之路［5］。
二、综合英语课堂值日报告的实效性
说值日报告是小环节，那是因为它只占用课堂几分钟时间，但是要让它能起大作用，做报告者、听报告者、报告内容和形式、报告的难易度等都是必须考虑并采取一定有效措施才能达到的，否则值日报告就可能因为做报告者思想不重视随便敷衍了事，选择的内容或冗长或无意，作报告时懒散拖沓。或者听报告的学生不爱听或不想听，自顾做自己的事情；或者教师做局外人或旁观者，听、看完值日报告后不做任何点评等不利因素的影响而流于形式，毫无实效。为了避免这种情况的出现，保障值日报告发挥应有的作用，必须考虑到以下几个因素。
（一）从思想上提高学生对值日报告重要性的认识
思想认识的深度决定行为有效的程度。要想让学生正确对待值日报告工作并自觉、认真地准备，必须让学生深刻认识到值日报告的重要性。首先，在课程教学中明确告诉学生值日报告是课程的必修作业，听报告者（教师、其余学生）对报告进行评价，并把评价纳入到期末口试考评中，以增强学生的紧迫感和重视程度。其次，给学生灌输有效的值日报告对学生英语语言知识的掌握和语言技能的提高、心智发展的促进等方面的有力帮助，以增强学生利用好这个锻炼和提高的平台的意识。最后，强化学生的危机感。有一位英语专业教学专家曾忧虑地指出，英语专业学生在学英语，非英语专业学生也在学英语（大学英语）。毕业时，非英语专业毕业生同时具有专业知识和技能及英语语言技能，而英语专业学生只有英语专业知识和技能，英语专业学生如果不充分利用有利练习机会锻炼自己，提高和突出口语交际技能，与非英语专业毕业生的就业竞争根本没有任何优势。这种说法可能有失依据，但不无道理。英语专业学生只有自觉把握所有可利用的机会，充分把值日报告作为锻炼的舞台来磨炼自己，才有利于自己的进步。
（二）发挥教师的主导作用
现代教学理念从关注“教”转向重视“学”，课堂教学模式也从“以教师为中心”转向“以学生为中心”。但这并不意味着老师的作用削弱了，相反对教师的“课堂主导角色”提出了新的挑战。正如Sheerin（1997，cited in Benson & Voller，1997：63）所说：“Autonomous learning is by no means ‘teacherless learning’.Teachers have a crucial role to play in launching learners into self-access and in lending them a regular helping hand to stay afloat.”［6］在值日报告中，教师的角色也是极其重要的。
首先，教师介入值日报告的总体规划和设计。教师对学生三年的报告形式进行总体的设计并介入活动。如在朗读、讲故事、初级情景会话、中级情景会话、课文角色扮演、时事话题辩论、专业实践项目汇报、模拟面试场景等中选择各学期值日报告的形式，使报告的难度循序渐进化；教师对朗读和故事内容作一定要求；教师设计丰富的会话情境供学生选择，并规定情境不能被重复使用。同时，根据需要协助学生进行课文角色扮演、时事话题辩论、专业实践项目汇报、模拟面试场景等报告的设计。另外，还可以做一些小细节的规定，如时间不能超过五分钟，除时事话题辩论、专业实践项目汇报外。生词量不能超过十个（以报告者自己作为参照对象），否则用大家熟悉的词代替，以降低听报告者信息输入的难度。
其次，教师主导值日报告的进行，维持课堂的秩序。在值日报告进行当中，教师适时提醒报告者声音的大小、语速的快慢，并对开小差者示意。报告结束后，教师对报告作出点评。同时，可以就报告的主题、内容或细节对部分学生，特别是容易开小差的学生进行提问，也可以激发听报告者对做报告者进行“答记者问”互动活动。这样可以保持课堂的有效秩序，保证值日报告的有效进行，并能检验学生的实际理解效果。
最后，教师营造轻松、愉悦的语言交流环境。Vygotsky（1978）认为知识存在于社会中，由众人去分享而不是各个个体去单独获取［7］。因此，良好的学习环境是学生建构知识的保障，是学生融入协作学习的条件。综合英语课程在基础阶段强调听、说的技能训练，而学生在课堂上“说”英语的焦虑指数较高［4］，因此教师不要急于求成，而在耐心引导的基础上，创设一个轻松的师生之间、生生之间平等的、相互尊重的学习环境。教师应用鼓励的目光、欣赏的神情耐心倾听，用和蔼可亲的仪态、亲切温和的语言进行点评，点评以肯定评述为主。这样，有助于帮助学生克服胆怯、减缓焦虑的心理，积极参与到活动中去。
（三）对值日报告的效果进行评价
综合英语期末考试包括口试和笔试两项，口试占15%，笔试占85%，期评由形成性（平时表现）评价和终结性（期末考试）评价组成，两者各占40%和60%。形成性评价和终结性评价相结合，是评定学生的学习进步程度、学习效果的重要手段。由听报告者对值日报告的效果进行评价，期末教师以40%的比例把评价纳入期末口试成绩评定中。这种方式对学生会是不小的促进，在思想上形成紧迫感，增强关注度。教师在听报告的过程中记录报告者的表现、报告的效果并予以打分评价。同时，引导学生包括报告者对报告的效果进行当堂评价，学生的评价宜以Wonderful，Very good，Good三个等级进行，以避免等级太次增加报告者的思想负担和心理压力。把值日报告纳入考评范围无疑会在很大程度上地激励学生为报告积极地准备、反复地操练。经过多次的上台讲或演，学生逐渐克服胆怯的心理，树立信心，积极展现自我，英语口语的表达能力也迅速得到提高，对其他技能的训练也能起到促进作用。
（四）系统设计值日报告的形式和内容
值日报告的形式和内容的设计根据学生的年级、学习的阶段、学习的内容而调整。内容与形式根据学生的特点遵循循序渐进的原则来设计。如，刚刚进入大学的新生对老师和同学都还不熟悉，语言能力尚处于较薄弱的阶段，对抛头露面讲英语存有惧怕的情绪，值日报告的内容宜以简单、两人合作方式进行。另外，综合英语教学离不开话题讨论或辩论、课文段落归纳、课文复述、课文角色扮演、口头作文等口语交际活动，教师适时地把课堂口语交际活动任务落到值日报告的活动上，不仅使课程教学课内与课外有效地结合起来，而且让学生有充足的时间内化课中所学知识。
值日报告突出以学生为主体的教学特征，调动学生学习的主观能动性，增加语言“输入”和“输出”的机会，最终达到强化学生语言能力的目的。因此，对于贯穿学生大学学习所有学期的综合英语课程教学来说，值日报告不仅是一种简单的英语课前“热身”活动，还是一种长期的积淀。重视值日报告的重要性和必要性，探索值日报告更高的计划性、组织性、系统性和实效性，使之更好地为课程服务仍然是综合英语课程教学的一个重要研究课题。

Compared with the forty year old shabby dormitory I am living in now, the one I lived in for three years in high school was heaven: three students shared one brand new suite with air conditioners and a bathroom.

Almost each of the boys' dormitories had gradually developed its own unique _fragrance_ usually a mixture of rotten fruit, unwashed socks, stunk towels and some junk food. We could tell one dormitory from another by sniffing instead of looking. Our tolerance towards untidiness was amazing.
However, in spite of all this, we really did make some progress. Bit by bit, we started to wash dirty clothes before they stunk, cleaned the garbage bin when it could hold no more trash, we even used brushes in a not-sc-successful attempt to refurbish the floor. The point was that we were not obeying any order, we did every bit of the cleaning for ourselves, because we wanted to live in a better place. Though nothing we did could be called an achievement, it was the first time we fully bore the consequences of our behavior, and took the responsibility.
Thus it was not surprising that I often found myself the only one to clean up my university dormitory which looked no better than a garbage bin when my roommates felt normal of it.
When talking about our dormitory life, and probably all the dormitory life, we should never leave out one thing. This was what we called _bed talks_. Though it was considered _illegal,_there was nothing to stop us from deliberately starting a heated discussion right after lights were out. It was our favorite and the only way of ending our day, and we were as punctual for it as our parents are for work. What was the most common topic?Girls, of course! What other topics were there for three energetic adolescent males lying comfortably in bed? We judged them,ranked them, argued over them night after night without feeling the slightest sense of boredom for three whole years. Were we

一、形成性评价
课程形成性评价（Formative Assessment），指的是教学过程中对学生学习过程的表现和效果进行的考核，其目的是加强对学习过程的指导和管理，及时反馈学习信息以指导教学，提高学生的综合素质和能力。
此种评价方式依赖于多种信息，单纯的课堂口头问答或书面考试不能全面反映学生的学习效果。其他因素，如学生的课堂行为、他们对学校或对自己的态度、学习的目的、学习习惯、学习方式和策略也很重要（Genesee & Upshur，1998:3）。当教学内容与各种技能和生活知识相关时，教师应该以学生及时表现出来的技能水平和所取得的成果作为评价的依据，即教师应该观察学生的实际行为和作品，然后做出判断。形成性评价不是单维的、平面的，它是一个多维的、立体的画面，是一种长时间持续的评价（罗少茜，2003：129）。
二、《旅游英语》形成性评价实践
《旅游英语》（Tourism English）课程教学的着眼点不同于通用英语（General English）的教学，它强调的是学生的各种真实的学习活动和学习任务，注重学生英语语言的实际应用能力，如口语的交际技巧（如英语翻译、导游）、解决问题的能力和技巧（导游实践活动）。
本人从事《旅游英语》教学多年，通过教学实践对课程评价和考核进行了一些探索和改革，希望与大家共同探讨。在我系，《旅游英语》是一门跨学期持续开设的课程，连续开设三个学期，累计教学为216学时。因此学生学习此门课程的过程实际上就是一个连续的、形成性的过程。
（一）形成性评价的目的
以前对《旅游英语》课程我们采用的终结性评价方式是教师“总结或鉴定”学生已经学到了什么。教师往往根据学生记诵教材知识和内容的多少来给学生一个成绩，作为此门课程的最终成绩，而学生在考试中获得的成绩越好，会学得越努力。
由于形成性评价手段和内容多样化、广泛，注重的是教学的过程和学生的自我表现评估，所以通过形成性评价我们可以搞清楚学生对所学到的知识和内容是如何理解的，以便能更好地指导教学，它有助于教师对学生所学的知识形成较好的认识。当学生得到发展自我表现的机会时，他们会学得更好。通过形成性评价，教师可以掌握学生学习旅游英语的动态和表现，随时调整教学计划，根据学生的需要做出相应的决定。
（二）形成性评价的方法
《旅游英语》课程形成性评价的具体方式如下：
1.平时学习表现：根据学生在学习过程中的表现评定成绩。平时表现包括考勤、课堂讨论、学习笔记。教师严格执行考勤制度，无故迟到或早退、旷课，都要在平时表现中扣除相应的分数。教师对在课堂上积极参与教学，与教师经常性互动的学生给予鼓励；教师要督促学生认真记学习笔记，鼓励学生提出问题。
平时学习表现满分为100分，占总成绩的10%。
2.平时作业：平时作业的形式有书面的和口头的，我们规定平时作业为记分作业，教师根据学生完成记分作业的质量评定成绩。《旅游英语》课程的记分作业为每学期至少6次。记分作业包括听写、背诵、翻译（口译、笔译）、做文章、小论文等。
平时作业满分为100分，占总成绩的15%。
3.阶段测验：在单元或课题教学结束后命题测验学生的学习效果，根据学生的答题质量评定成绩。阶段测验的方式也有多种形式，有笔试（包括开卷和闭卷）、口试（包括答辩）、专题讨论、实操等。每个学期内，《旅游英语》阶段测验不少于2次。本学期内，我们以专题讨论的形式进行了阶段测验，期中一次的题目是“导游到底应不应该收取小费？”（Should the tour guide get the tips from the tourists?）。学生在教师的引导下，充分陈述自己的观点，不少学生观点新颖，对这个命题有自己深入的分析和理解。教师根据每个学生的表现以及陈述的观点综合给出一个成绩。
阶段测验满分为100分，占总成绩的15%。
4.大作业：根据课程教学的需要专门设计的综合性作业，根据学生完成作业的质量评定成绩。《旅游英语》的大作业侧重对学生分析、应用、综合、实践等能力的测试。如分析“中国加入WTO后给旅游业（广东旅游业、深圳旅游业）带来的机遇和挑战”，要求学生分成若干小组，经过搜集资料、综合分析、提出论点、撰写报告（或制作电脑演示文稿）、公开陈述等过程。由教师和其他同学共同参与评价，一起给出成绩。《旅游英语》大作业每学期1至2次。
大作业满分为100分，占总成绩的20%。
5.实践性作业：根据《旅游英语》课程的性质和教学需要，我们专门规定了学生必须通过实践学习提交实践性作业。实践性作业主要有实训报告、实习报告、社会调查报告等。上学期，我们组织学生进行了旅游资源综合实习，邀请了市内著名旅行社的优秀导游亲自带队示范，考察了广东省部分旅游资源，包括广州、肇庆、清远等地。实习结束后，学生根据要求都提交了详细的实习报告。通过阅读学生的实习报告，我们发现大部分学生都达到了实习的要求，对课堂教学做了非常有价值的补充。我们也根据每个学生在实习中的表现和实习报告的质量给每个人核定了一个分数。
实践性作业满分为100分，占总成绩的20%。
6.期末考试：为总结性考试，类似于前面我们所说的终结性评价，学生必须在完成以上数种评价之后方可参加此种考核。考核方式一般为笔试。

（三）形成性评价成绩合成方法
《旅游英语》课程形成性评价总成绩由课程形成性评价中各种评价成绩组合而成，采用百分制，即：

下面以2002至2003学年第二学期我系01级旅游英语专业为例说明《旅游英语》形成性评价成绩的构成：
课程形成性评价总成绩X = 平时学习表现分数 x 10% + 平时作业分数 x 15% + 阶段测验分数 x 15% + 大作业分数 x 20% + 实践性作业分数 x 20% + 期末考核分数 x 20%
如该班学生A的《旅游英语》课程形成性评价总成绩的基本构成如下表：
学生参与的评价（Student-involved Assessment）
在《旅游英语》教学实践中，特别是在课堂上，除了教师对学生进行评价之外，我们还鼓励学生参与到评价之中，评价的方式包括学生自我评估（Self-assessment）、同伴评估（Peer Assessment）等，这样就使形成性评价体系更科学、更有效。
自我评估要求学生独立地评价自己的学习状态，并可以客观地描述自己的表现，并用事实来说明自己的成绩。如学生在课堂上向大家展示自己在假期旅游过程中拍摄的照片或是自己做导游带团时的影像资料，并且做详细的解说，同时评价自己的表现，说明自己的成绩和不足。在这个自我表现评价的过程中，同学之间彼此信任和真诚的互评同样重要。同伴互评可以通过简单的活动来实施，例如：我们要求3至5个学生对上述同学的讲解和陈述进行当场点评，指出优点和缺点，并鼓励大家对此评论进行评价。当然这个过程少不了教师的指导和参与。

She is a housewife, so she usually does the housework. Everyday she cooks delicious food for us. Those are my grandparents. They are old but well.
