中等职业学校的旅游与服务管理专业主要是培养出高素质的一线导游员,旅游英语作为旅游服务与管理专业的一门重要专业课,其学习效果好坏对于学生以后从事涉外导游服务起着决定性作用。然而,中职旅游专业学生由于英语基础相对较差,在学习旅游英语时,会显得力不从心,于是,怎样让学生“乐学、善学”就成为了旅游英语教师思考的问题。

针对以上情况,笔者所在的学校为了提高旅游专业学生的英语水平,特选用了以对话形式呈现课文内容的教材,注重英语口语表达的学习,尽量减少语法的涉及。同时,在保证课文主题完整的同时,降低了内容难度,突出知识的实用性,提高了课堂上学生的英语实际运用与交际能力,真正让学生在课堂学习中也能有实践操作的机会,从而身临每一个旅游场景,学以致用。我们倡导旅游英语对话教学,也就是倡导在英语课堂上,教师与学生作为平等的双方,以对话为背景,就共同的话题探讨、融合,形成一种寓教于乐的教学情境。

一、旅游英语对话教学的优势

作为教师,都希望自己的教学氛围是轻松的、愉快的,学生对知识的理解是容易的。对话性英语课堂教学正符合这种要求。对话性英语课堂教学就是在课堂上,充分调动教师和学生的积极性,使教师乐于教,学生乐于学。在快乐学习的同时培养旅游专业学生的自信心,使她们在今后的工作中面对外国客人时,能勇敢的用英语表达并交流,让学生体会到理论和实践结合的快乐感。

中职学校学生的旅游英语学习,教学时间短,要求见效快,从而对旅游专业的英语教师提出了更高的要求:既不能简单的以教师为中心,也不能让学生处于被动的地位。传统英语教学中念念单词、读读句型、讲讲语法的常规教学方法对学生获取知识、巩固知识和运用知识能力的提高作用有限。而旅游英语对话教学的内容正是围绕导游工作的主题,以“入住登记”、“投诉”、“接站”、“送站”等为主题用对话的形式实景呈现。这不仅降低了教材的难度,而且使其更适应中职学校学生的英语水平,对提高学生的英语学习水平,增强他们学习英语的主动性都大有益处。

二、旅游英语对话教学的实施

1、主动学习相关词汇及表达方式,为对话做好准备

在英语学习上,旅游专业学生常常觉得“巧妇难为无米之炊”,因此课堂的培养目标应从词汇的记忆和再认、句型掌握、交际能力等方面入手。然而,词汇的学习往往枯燥而且乏味,所以要尽可能地使词汇接近教学内容。教师可采取多种方式呈现词汇,通过感官刺激,让学生产生长时记忆,从而促使学生能积极主动地学习相关表达方式,并及时发现学生在学习过程中的疑难问题,让他们准备好对话中可能要用的短语及习惯表达,变原来的“老师主动教”成为“学生主动学”。比如,在学习“投诉”这一课时,先让学生讨论投诉可能会出现的场景,然后总结出投诉中要用到的词汇,并主动寻求这些词汇的英文表达方式。这样教学的好处在于,学生对英语词汇的学习是积极主动的获取,而不是被动的、由教师灌输的。

2、勇于开口表达,培养对话的自信心

师生之间的关系将直接影响到学生的课堂参与,教师应处在和学生平等的地位,通过积极的引导让学生成为真正参与课堂的主动者,成为课堂里真正的“主人”。师生之间或生生之间的平等对话,将大大激发学生主动对话的欲望,提高学生主动对话的能力,增强学生主动对话的自信心。因此,在对话教学中,鼓励学生勇于开口表达是十分必要的。

学以致用是学习知识的目的,语言学习更是如此,只有通过沟通和交流,才能锻炼自己的语言表达能力,才能熟悉各种词汇,才能牢记各种语言表达方式和技巧。

3、即兴表演,真实还原对话情景

旅游口语训练是旅游专业英语教学的重点,这是由旅游业对从业人员的要求所决定的。旅游英语对话教学实施的关键,就是为学生提供一个模拟场景,让学生根据场景和主题进行即兴表演,用自己的语言再现对话情景。这样不仅能激发学生的学习潜能,提高学生运动知识的能力,而且学生可以通过运用语言这个工具来解决突发状况,也提高了自己应急处突的能力。学习“入住登记”这一课时,学习者就可以分别扮演导游和游客,游客可以根据实际旅游过程中发生的各种状况模拟情景,而模拟导游的一方必须尽可能完善的安排好住宿与登记,并帮助作为客人的一方解答疑惑,让游客最终满意。即兴表演的过程既锻炼了学生的语言表达能力,也增强了对非言语交际行为的理解(如仪态举止、声音与表情)。

4、竞争表演,完善对话教学

随着对话训练的深入,学生对文章的理解逐渐加深,参与课堂对话教学的学生也会不断增多,自信心也会越来越强,这时,对于这部分刚刚建立自信的学生,在“我要对话”的基础上,引入竞争机制,让他们分组竞赛,通过借助团队的力量,查找资料,准备对话内容,让自己的自信心增强的同时,也体会到团队合作的优势和乐趣。伴随着语言实践的增加和积累,不仅可以提高学生的口头表达水平,更能培养他们自信对话的能力。

三、旅游英语对话教学存在的问题

1、教师角色的定位

在对话教学中,教师其实是中介者,是对话的组织者和监督者。教师不仅要教会学生如何对话,还要督促学生自己对话,引导学生主动形成对话,并勇于表达。同时,教师的教学方法也不能单一陈旧,既不能简单的以教师为中心进行传统的知识教授;也不能只是带领学生开展会话游戏等进行所谓的实践活动,而没有组织扎实有效的课堂学习。

2、把握好对话的难度

对话任务要贴近学生的语言表达能力,具有适当的难度和可操作性。太难了,学生会退缩不敢表达,太容易了,则不能调动学生积极性,不同的对话教学在设计上应有不同的变化。所以,教师在“度”的把握上要准确到位。

总之,在竞争日益激烈的今天,人们对涉外旅游从业人员的素质提出了更高的要求,熟练的英语表达能力将成为他们有利的竞争力。作为教师,在对待旅游专业的英语教学中,不仅要根据学生及其专业特点,因人施教,发挥其专业特色,更要给学生更多的英语对话机会,切实提高他们的英语水平。
